Dogwood 16" x 20" Oil on Canvas Driving through East Texas in the early spring is a real treat. Dogwoods are the first to bloom so thare can still be a chill in the air when they begin to blossom. There are some superstitions attached to these trees especially in the deep south in the heart of the bible belt. Some people believe this tree was cursed upon Jesus' crucifixion because his cross was built from the Dogwood tree. Believers will tell you the proof is in the small size of the tree today, along with it's white petals that are "bloodstained" in the center, a reminder of Christ' blood that was shed.
