Holland by the Sea
Holland by the Sea
12" x 16"
Ink on Paper

I took a train from Amsterdam, I really had no idea where it was going. I arrived at the last stop mid morning in a town called Zandvoort aan Zee and disembarked.

I walked from the station to the beach where it looked like everything was being packed up and stored, which in fact it was.

These wooden and fabric lounge chairs were carefully lined up in front of the only bar on the beach that hadn't packed up and moved.

The bars are built so that they can be easily unpacked and set up for the summer and just as easily torn down and stored on the beach for the winter. They were stored in huge canvas "bags" that were anchored to the sand with large straps and turnbuckles to withstand the gales that blow in from the North Sea.
