ABOUT THE ARTIST Mr. Van Voorhees was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and raised in Bossier City just North of the infamous Bossier Strip on Highway 80. He attended Plantation Park elementary, Parkway Jr High, Bossier High School. He first left home at the age of 13 living on the streets of New Orleans where he sold Lucky Dogs at the corner of Bourbon and Canal streets. He first sold his paintings to a representative from Houston Blacklight Company for reproduction as posters. Mr. Van Voorhees enlisted in the Army in 1971 and attended basic training at Fort Ord, California. He was honorably dischsrged. He attended Geneva's Beauty College in Bossier City and was issued a license to practice cosmetology in 1976. Mr Van Voorhees cosmetology career spanned four decades working with hair, makeup, and fashion, in theater, music videos, and film. He has produced dinner theater, worked in regional theater, written several screenplays, books, and produced a feature film.
